When we set out on Day 5 of our family road trip through South Dakota, our plan was simple. We intended to make a quick (and let’s be honest—totally obligatory) stop at Mount Rushmore, snap a few photos, and then head on to Casper, Wyoming for the night. But then, those classic summer thunderstorms rolled in. We decided to switch gears, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip!

Instead of pushing through the rain, we booked a last-minute stay at Under Canvas Mount Rushmore. This luxury glamping resort is just outside the small, historic town of Keystone, South Dakota. We had no idea how dreamy, peaceful, and memorable this spontaneous stop would be!

As the sun began to set, the main tent lounge glowed with warm light over the mountains. There was live music on the patio, cozy campfires flickering across the grounds, and plenty of delicious food options from the onsite dining area (way better than any “camp food” we’ve ever had!). Each guest even receives a complimentary s’mores kit to enjoy under the stars.

And the view? Absolutely breathtaking! Just beyond the patio deck, you can see Mount Rushmore perfectly framed against the sky—glowing at sunset and even more spectacular after dark.
